The art centres visited on a Collect Aboriginal Art experience are all Aboriginal owned and operated, ensuring that all proceeds from the sale of art works provide a direct benefit to the artists and the communities.
These centres are an integral part of each community, providing the means for local artists to have their work distributed to galleries and collectors world wide. Many are also an artistic hub in the community, with artists sharing ochres, tools and resources, or just coming together socially.
A substantial number of artists bring their work to their local art centres for distribution, consequently these art centres carry a vast range of large and small original works. The art works available also feature a number of different styles and media - from exquisitely decorated memorial poles, stunning bark paintings, a huge selection of Yidaki (didgeridoos), ornate Morning Star Poles and intricate weavings to small carvings, contemporary prints on paper and fabric and a range of unique jewellery. With new ideas constantly developing, there is often the chance to find works at the local art centres that are genereally not stocked by art galleries in other areas of the country.
At each art centre a representative will be on hand to show you around and answer your questions about the art and the artists. They will also arrange packaging, shipment and insurance of any works purchased during your visit.
